animal farm

plastic straws stuck up nostrils
mask strings tangled around ankles
hooves stepping on own shit
feathers bleeded crimson, as flesh crush
you howl and squawk and roar and squeal
help,
help,
help
only a lonely echo rings throughout
the ocean
the sky
the ground
that were once your home
once belonged to you, no, to
everyone
but what is happening?
all of a sudden
water is slimier
air is hotter
soil pulls you into hell, a little too early
still
maybe you can touch the warm skin of your spouse
maybe, you can see your children hatch
maybe, you, can close your eyes in peace
but you can’t
because the earth is shaking
somewhere that was once your home
trampled and poisoned and muddled
something grabbing onto your nape
shoved into cages and shackles and conveyor belts
never with the chance to even realize your
spouse and children and mother
gone
you might have had a hunch
a weird swarm in your stomach
a peculiar angle of fur standing
to tell that something is coming, or..
someone?
when that came
grasping onto your body once again
your instincts might have told you
to escape
with every organ ringing their sirens
alerting hysterically
to free yourself from that tight grip around your ankles
to
GOSOMEWHEREFARFARAWAYANDNEVERTURNBACK
but this predator is particularly fast
their pinky easily suppresses your crawling hope
you are barged into the entrance of hell
the floor may be steaming, spinning, or aligned with a sharp blade pointing towards you
as the door opens, your ears and eyes and skin is shriveled
your senses tear apart into smaller pieces
before you become unconscious, an echo may ring
ahh, it’s the end
