blank spaces

i like blank spaces
little letters line up behind each other
they don’t fill, they sit down for a while
take a breath, then leave again
when i stare at my monitor
i see curvy, straight, and dotty objects
appearing with a press,
disappearing with a press
these mean something to me
but only since i understand
the world
behind each word
then, i don’t think i speak english
i read
i observe
but i don’t say anything
because sometimes, that is enough
then, i feel i am in a world without borders
every land, every language, every person is connected
perhaps with little things that can be understood
without language
love
scent
green
warmth
no matter how much i write about these
or try to talk about them, how good they are
they stay the same
quietly connects the lands, languages, people
they are not contained
within the letters
they are free,
floating behind the blank spaces
where i cannot see, smell, hear them
then, words become a stain
to write, speak, read, and laugh
it all becomes an interruption
a loud sneeze in a hospital
a muddy footprint in a museum
so i leave the blank,
blank
i let it be
understood without words
dance behind the white curtains
unseen,
unspoken,
unread,
just felt
